- Florida carbon capture ink on Fabriano paper
This ongoing series of large ink paintings celebrate Florida’s magnificent Cypress Swamps, which are increasingly under threat from property development. The paintings are made with ‘Carbon Capture’ ink (soot, scraped out of Florida exhaust pipes) Piers’ parents moved to Florida in 1980 and there was a section of Cypress Swamp immediately behind the house: Ten feet behind the house was a Cypress Swamp. It bristled with life - turtles, racoons, lizards and dragonflies were everywhere. It was overloaded with ferns, climbing plants and hanging moss. For a child from England, it was the most exotic scene I could have imagined.
