The Independent: Piers Secunda’s Taliban Relief Paintings

Piers Secunda’s Taliban Relief Paintings were featured in The Independent in November 2011.

English artist Piers Secunda talks about his unique approach of casting paint to ‘force painting into a sculptural realm’. He describes convincing Chinese soldiers to shoot machine guns at sheets of paint to apply texture. His recent decision to apply ‘geo-political texture’ to his work led him to Afghanistan, where he made a ‘record of the physical manifestations of the Taliban’s activities’ by casting bullet holes left by fire fights.
